I will be upgrading to a MacBook Pro soon, and I need a solution for my old hard drive?
As the title states, I will be upgrading to a Macbook Pro as soon as they update the lineup to i5 and i7 chips. The only problem is my hard drive from my old computer has all of my media and music on it! (about 50 gb worth) also it is a 500 gb hard drive. I do not want that purchase to go to waste so I have been looking into an external Ethernet based enclosure. Any recommendations for what I should to to salvage this hard drive or if I should just get a Time Capsule? Ive read the reviews on it and I dont want a product that is going to break after a years use. I also want to be able to access my files fast and not at USB speeds. ( >100mb/s)
I don't want to get the Time Capsule because of the reviews I've been reading on Apple.com
They have cases that you can slide a hard drive into andc onnects via fire wire or usb to the computer but u said you dont want usb transfer speeds but they are not that bad of speeds aslong as its usb2.o u can always keeep your old computer on as a server and connect it correctly map the harddrive and can get up too 1gbps but its a little more work or you can get a good external Ethernet based enclosure too if you want but they seem to range from 100$ and up.

that's only half of the story: "Bio-Grow" took second place in the
International E-Waste Design Competition 2010, incorporating refurbished waste
materials--namely a laptop, an iMac and a tower enclosure--into the
unassuming, bathroom sink-sized unit. Thus, Mark Schnitzer and his teammates
Timothy Harvey, Elliot DeVries, Reza Shiftehfar and Meg Kenney designed "Bio-
Grow" to hit the sweet spot between forward-looking sustainability and
repurposing e-waste materials.
