Panerai is a famous Italian watch company, even though their watches are now produced in Switzerland rather than Italy. Years ago, the Italian Navy commissioned the Panerai watch workshop to produce a watch that could be read underwater easily and began a partnership with them to produce many watches with various complications over the years. They have manufactured a number of the Rattrapante Chronograph watches, or double chronographs. This gives someone the ability to time two different types of activities that take different amounts of time.
The Panerai FER 010, Ferrari Rattrapante Chronograph, Scuderia has an automatic winding movement with split second chronograph. The classic brushed stainless steel case of model # FER 010 has a 45 mm diameter and an exposition back. This beautiful brushed steel case is perfectly set off by the black strap band that uses a stainless steel Panerai deployant clasp.
The black dial on the Ferrari Rattrapante creates the perfect setting for the hour and minute hands as well as creating a background for the Arabic numerals and the hour, minute, and second recorders, located at the 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions. The tachymeter scale circles the rim of the bezel. This feature allows one to compute speed based on time or measure distance based on speed, which is great to have at sporting events or to determine how fast you are driving. The FER 010 by Panerai, the Ferrari Rattrapante Chronograph Scuderia watch is an elegant addition to the active man’s collection.
Panerai is the most famous Italian watch company. But keep in mind, Panerai is now produced in Switzerland, not Italy. Originally founded in Florence in the 1860’s, this “watch workshop” was commissioned by the Italian Navy to produce a watch that could be easily read underwater. This early prototype was actually fitted with Rolex parts. Currently Panerai produces a very limited number of pieces and therefore keeps demand high.
