It depends. If the hard drive is held in by its own screws then I wouldn't worry about it. If the cover held in the hard drive then you need to replace it because your hard drive will fall out. If you decide not to get another cover I would be more careful with since you hard drive will be more prone to damage because it has nothing to protect it if you drop it or something like that.
