My camera won't turn on?
it's a finepix s700, and the memory cover is missing .
is there any way to resolve this ?
Hi there,
Ok, when the memory cover is there and you close it, it pushes on a small switch inside the camera in order for the camera to startup. You need to replace the memory cover.
You can send it in for repairs, but be ready for a fairly stingy invoice - you see the cover might cost 6-7$, but the labor is like 150$ an hour and that's where it gets unreasonable.
If you' re a little handy and methodical, you're in luck because Fuji is one of a few companies that sell parts to normal customers. I have personally fixed a few dozen Fuji cameras and ordered parts from Fuji's parts department.
Now you will have to disassemble the camera. MAKE SURE you have a disassembly plan in front of you i.e. a sketch of the front, back, sides, top of your camera where you will deposit the screws you take out so that you can re-assemble it the same way you took it apart. I can't stress enough how important this is because you could end up with a mess if you don't do this - just be very methodical.
If you can achieve this, a repair could have cost you a few hundred dollars, will cost you somewhere around 10$ and your camera will be back in business.
One word of caution - don't disassemble the insides of the camera unless again you are very handy..for a memory cover you should be able to do this repair just by disassembling the camera's casing.
And if you ever do get inside the camera, be careful for the large Capacitator (it's like a round tube with 2 wires sticking out of it) which holds the charge for the flash. Don't ever touch the wires with your hands (you'll get a strong shock) or a metal piece because it will discharge and make a big spark, potentially damaging the electronics of your camera for good.
Finally, don't be afraid to take the casing apart to change a memory card, or battery cover, you usually don't need to get into the insides of the camera where there is sensitive stuff.
