The Deadly Secret Behind Motorhome Tires

Rv tires are generally sturdy and strong. The tread is made so that the vehicle can cover significant distances and still remain in tact. When it comes to avoiding blowouts nevertheless the age of the tire is what really matters. The foremost cause of a blowout can in the majority of the cases be attributed to the age of the tire.

It is quite possible to have a perfectly good quantity of tread left on a tire which will appear to be in fine state but is in fact at the point of blowing out due to its age. An uncomforting thought is that when you buy new tire for your Motorhome you will normally get them in sets, if not for all of the wheels then at least for one axle and once one tyre has blown then the odds of the others in the same set going as well are enormously high. If you are thinking about buying a used Rv especially if it is at an auction then it is essential you get a good look at the state of the tires. If the tires have a decent amount of tread then this will undoubtedly be pointed out by the seller or the supplier, this is not the most significant thing to consider here.

Tires on an Rv need to be replaced every seven years. Because of exposure to the sunlight and the elements, the side walls of a tire will tend to lose its natural oils. This will cause fine cracks in the sidewall which lead to larger cracks, then BOOM you have a blowout.

Blowouts can also be caused by running with tires under inflated. Don't be tempted to run on lower pressures than recommended 'for a softer ride' This merely generates more heat which might lead to a major failure.

There are a number of photos on the RVs For Sale blog showing how a serious blowout can be.

examine the tires of a vehicle with attention to detail by searching for the small cracks in the side wall, then attempt to find the DOT number. There ought to be a set of numbers on the side wall marked DOT that will consist of a series of numbers and letters. It is commonly in the format of DOT xxxxxxxx0393, the last digits will correspond to the month and the the year of manufacture. Here for instance the tire is from March of 1993, not recommended if seeing as you need to change them every 7 years regardless of the mileage.

If your tire explodes on the highway you can be in serious trouble. If the tire that blows our is a front tire then the result is like you had slammed on the brakes hard on one front wheel only. The possibly of striking the crash barrier and possibly rolling over is high. Should you be unlucky enough to have a front blowout you will need to wrestle with the steering wheel to control the Rv and steer it to the side of the road.

A blowout on the rear is not so bad as your steering will not be impaired. If you have twin back wheels and the blowout occurs between the two tires on one side of the Motorhome, The blast from the one tyre can often kiss the other and cause that to go as well. If the blowout is on the outer tyre wall then your bodywork is in jeopardy.

Fiberglass bodywork can be ripped apart from a blowout happening at the top of the wheel rotation. The safest place to have a blowout (if there can be a safest place) would be in the rear wheel on the inside.

As an ending note, Unless you are really fit and have all the right gear, don't try changing the RV wheel yourself. You should always call out the rescue service or go to a specialist repair shop as Rv wheels need specifically trained people to manage them.

Fujifilm X-Series Superzoom Hobbled by Small Sensor (Wired - Gadget Lab)

Fujifilm's new X-S1 takes a huge step back in terms of X-series body design,
but almost makes up for it in specs. The X-series features the rangefinder-
like X100 with the dual optical/electronic viewfinder and big APS-C sensor,
and the neat, retro-styled X-10. Aside from styling, it seems that the X
cameras have little in common. Now [...]
